Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport After Significant ATC System Failure

A technical fault at Edinburgh's ATC meant no planes could arrive or depart from the hub.

Flight operations have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.

Every arrival and departure were halted due to an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

Several flyers found themselves stranded in jets at the stand as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Residual Impact

A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

However, considerable delays are likely to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with many others experiencing delays.

Officials had initially projected that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the full ground stop to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Flyers continue to be advised to verify the schedule of their journey before traveling to the hub as backlogs are worked through.
